Swope Health coordinates care for Labor & Delivery, major surgical procedures and other medical needs beyond our scope of practice. Your care team will work directly with you to identify the best place to receive this care.

Healthy Start

Many things contribute to a healthy and safe pregnancy. If you are pregnant or planning a family, Kansas City Healthy Start can help you get the information and services you need to have a healthy baby, raise a healthy family and keep yourself healthy and strong.

Healthy Start offers services and support for mothers, children and their families before, during and after pregnancy.

Community health workers will provide help signing up for health insurance and finding a doctor for mom and baby; setting goals for a healthy lifestyle; parenting education for the mother and father of the baby; referral and resource information for breastfeeding support, nutrition counseling, food and housing assistance and job training programs.

WIC

The Women, Infants and Children Special Supplemental Nutrition Program (WIC) helps families learn about breastfeeding, making healthy food choices and living a healthy lifestyle.

WIC serves pregnant, breastfeeding, and women who recently delivered up to 6 months, as well as infants and children up to their 5th birthday. Call 816-922-1080 to learn more about WIC.

WIC provides nutrition counseling focused on your needs and concerns, and offers Nutrition Education and health education in person or on the web (Complete your nutrition education online.) The service also offers referrals to healthcare and social services.

Eligibility to participate in the program is determined by income and nutritional risk. Participants receive a health screening and nutrition risk assessment. (See WIC Program guidelines.)

If you are pregnant or a new mother with an infant and you wish to certify for the program, you and your child must come for the first WIC visit. Please bring the following information:

Proof of ID: For an infant, you may bring hospital discharge papers, crib card, nursery bracelet, birth certificate or shot record. For a child, bring a birth certificate or shot record. For an adult, please bring a driver’s license, work/school ID, military card or passport.
Proof of Address: Please bring a utility/personal bill, rent or mortgage receipt or pay stub that has been issued within the past 30 days.

Proof of Income: Please bring a recent pay stub, bank statement, unemployment letter, social security statement, SNAP/TANF award letter, foster child placement letter/foster parent award letter.

If you have a Medicaid card, please bring a card for each person enrolling in the program. Apply for Medicaid (MO Healthnet for children).
